I think everyone has probably been in this situation before. An old ex calls you up, wants to hang out with you, starts flirting, and you dont know what to think. I mean, was your ex really flirting, or was that just your imagination hoping that she was? Now, it is ok to get your hopes up, just a little though. You really need to figure out what, if any, signs that he or she might be sending you, and if they mean what you think they mean.
The biggest thing to remember is that no matter what, you want to keep the ball in your court, which means that you want to play a little hard ball, or hard to get. Now I say a little because you do not want to go overboard and be too tough. But just make sure that if your ex is showing signs of interest that you dont go jumping right back into it, like a little puppy dog wagging its tail uncontrollably. Now a breakup will be especially tough if you were together longer then a year. When you are together with someone for that long, there are so many memories that are built and so many experiences that you shared that will make the breakup so much more difficult. You do have to be careful though. Your ex could be showing interest in you to get back at you. They might know how much in love you still are with them and might make you think they are interested to be mean. They will flirt with you and spend time with you merely to get back at you, because they feel that you have wronged them in some way. Or they might just be passing the time with you because they havent been able to find any other prospects, and they dont really want to be alone. That is why you do not want to jump the gun and get your hopes up too quickly.
When its all said and done, this situation happens a lot in break ups, where somebody will try and play twindly winks with the other person. That is why you must remain “out of reach” and not appear that you really want to get back.
